Game : May 5: Padres 12 Pirates 2

On a perfect spring night for baseball, the Padres defeated the Pirates 12-2 in an early season match-up of first place teams. The Pirates showed they were ready to play in the 1st inning when starting pitcher Quinn Hardisty and 2nd baseman Drew Hebert combined on a sparkling double play to end an early Padre threat. Fine defense was also displayed by Pirate players Sasha Sevastyanov, Colm Flood, Tom Butler and Cameron Dunn.

The Pirate offense was paced by Joe Kelleher (hit, walk), catcher Jonathan Borenstein's RBI, Ryan Connarton (hit), Liam Thompson and Kiernan Dunn's run scored.

The Padres were ready for the challenge and were led by starting pitcher CJ Moriconi. Moriconi struck out three while surrendering only two hits in three innings of work and also added a hit, two RBI, a run scored and aggressive base running.

The Padres also got contributions on offense from red hot Nicholas Hitchman (double, 2 walks, 3 RBI), and equally hot Max Johnson (double, 2 walks, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and catcher Steven Edwards (2 hits, 2 RBI, run). Lucas Donahue added a hit for the Padres, as did Michael Thomas, John Biblios, and Darel Parent.

Parent, Chase and Karden Auld all scored for the Padres. Colin Walsh came in to pitch in relief for the Padres, shutting the door while striking out two to end the game and push the Padres record to 3-1.
