Royals Ride Strong Pitching to Opening Day Win

Royals Hold Off Late Rockies Rally

UpdatedSaturday April 28, 2018 byJohn McKeown.

The Royals defeated the Rockies on Opening Day at the Lewis Monk Field.  The Royals rode the strong pitching performance of Starting Pitcher Ian McKeown, who had a perfect game through five innings and finished with 13 strike outs.  The entire Royals line up contributed to the 12 run effort with aggressive base running and solid plate appearances.  Royals batters Shane Pitcher, Brady Yee, Ian McKeown, Audrey Zinck, Alec Truesdale, Nicholas Bianco and Rocco Kraunelis all reached base multiple times during the game.  Owen Mujali was the designated player coach for the game and finished the game off on the mound.  Cadel McKeown caught the entire game for the Royals.  Giancarlo Martinis and Colton Sullivan each reached base during the contest.  The entire Royals line up reached safely during the game.

The Rockies rallied for four runs in the final inning but it was too little too late to make up for the 12 run deficit.  Other than two 5 run innings, the Rockies pitching held the Royals at bay, led by Thomas Santoriello, Justin Santoriello, and Rion Anderson and Wesley Rossel.

Royals Pitch Count:  Ian McKeown 75;  Owen Mujali 19
