Tee Ball

Ages 4-5 (PreSchool & Pre-K)

The Melrose Little League Tee-Ball Division is an introduction to baseball.

It is for first time players or young inexperienced players who need more instruction and experience before moving up to the either the Kid Pitch or Coach Pitch Division. This division has a fun and instructional format for learning the basics of baseball.

The players bat from the tee, everyone plays in the field. Each side bats through the order once each inning. Games generally last 1 hour or 4 innings, whichever comes first. There is one game during the week and one game on Saturday.

Developmental Coach Pitch

Ages 6-7-8 (Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade)

The Developmental Coach Pitch Division is for younger players who have moved up from Tee Ball or first time players who are not ready to start playing games. Score is not recorded, and the focus of the league is to teach players the fundamentals of baseball.

Only coaches pitch these games.

The coach gently pitches the player 5 pitches before the player is given a chance to hit from the tee (to keep the game moving). Each side bats through the order once or until three outs are recorded each inning. Games generally last 1 hour or 4 innings, whichever comes first.

There is either a practice or a game during the week and a game on Saturday.

Competitive Coach Pitch

Ages 6 - 7 - 8 (1st and 2nd Grade)

The Melrose Little League Competitive Coach Pitch Division is for first and second grade (and eligible K and 3rd grade) players who have moved up from Developmental Coach Pitch Division and are ready to start game play.

Only coaches pitch these games.

Each side bats until three outs are recorded or five runs are scored. Games generally last 2 hours or 6 innings, whichever comes first.

There is one practice and two games during the week.

Minors

Ages 9 - 11 (3rd & 4th Grade)

The Melrose Little League Minor League Division is a competitive and instructional division. This league is for third and fourth grader (and eligible second grade) players who have moved on from the Kid Pitch Division.

The games are more competitive with only players pitching. Games last 6 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first.

Coaches draft players for their teams based on skills demonstrated at assessments. 12-year old players cannot pitch in this league. There are 2-3 games a week. One Saturday game and one weekday game scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday evening.

Majors

Ages 11 - 12 (5th & 6th Grade)

The Melrose Little League Major League Division is the most competitive and it includes the most experienced players.

All 12 year old eligible players are guaranteed placement in this division, and 11 year old eligible players are encouraged to play in this division.

10 year old eligible players may request to play in this division but must be approved.

There are approximately 3 games a week. One Saturday game and two weekday games scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evening.

Junior and Senior Leagues

Melrose Little League is proud to announce the expansion of its baseball program with new Junior and Senior Divisions for players aged 13-16. Open to players of all baseball experience and backgrounds, this league will allow kids to compete with their peers and develop their game at the next level. You do not need to have previously played Melrose Little League to participate in Junior and Senior Leagues.

Both divisions will allow for fun, competitive play on the big baseball diamonds with a spring season and a summer All-Star tournament. All games will be played at Morelli and Pine Banks field, with potential for inter-league games against local district opponents.

Junior League 13-year-old
The Junior League Baseball Division is a program for boys and girls ages 13-14, using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. This league allows 13 year-old (and first-time 14 year old players) to adjust to the new dimensions and learn new game elements.

In addition to spring league play, the local league can choose a Tournament Team from within this division to enter the Little League State Tournament, culminating at the Junior League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the world.

Senior League 14-16 year-old
The Senior League Baseball Division is a program for boys and girls ages 14-16, using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches.

In addition to spring league play, the local league can choose a Tournament Team from within this division to enter the Little League State Tournament, culminating at the Senior League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the world.
