Tee Ball

Ages 4-5 (PreSchool & Pre-K)

The Melrose Little League Tee-Ball Division an introduction to baseball. 

It is for first time players or young inexperienced players who need more instruction and experience before moving up to the either the Kid Pitch or Coach Pitch Division. This division has a fun and instructional format for learning the basics of baseball. 

The players bat from the tee, everyone plays in the field. Each side bats through the order once each inning. Games generally last 1 hour or 4 innings, whichever comes first. There is one game during the week and one game on Saturday.

Coach Pitch

Ages 6-7 (Kindergarten & 1st Grade )

The Coach Pitch Division is for younger players who have moved up from Tee Ball or first time players who are ready to start playing games.  Score is not recorded, and the focus of the league is to teach players the fundamentals of baseball.  

Only coaches pitch these games. 

The coach gently pitches the player 5 pitches before the player is given a chance to hit from the tee (to keep the game moving). Each side bats through the order once or until three outs are recorded each inning. Games generally last 1 hour or 4 innings, whichever comes first.

There is either a practice or a game during the week and a game on Saturday. 

Federal League Kid Pitch

Ages 7 - 8 (2nd Grade)

The Melrose Little League Federal League Kid Pitch Division is for second grade (and eligible first grade) players who have moved up from Coach Pitch Division and are ready to start learning the fundamentals of baseball. 

Only players pitch these games.

Each side bats until three outs are recorded, five runs are scored or 9 players have batted in an inning. Games generally last 2 hours or 6 innings, whichever comes first. 

There is usually one practice or a game during the week and a game on Saturday.

Minors

Ages 9 - 11 (3rd & 4th Grade)

The Melrose Little League Minor League Division is a competitive and instructional division. This league is for third and fourth grader (and eligible second grade) players who have moved on from the Kid Pitch Division.

The games are more competitive with only players pitching. Games last 6 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first. 

Coaches draft players for their teams based on skills demonstrated at assessments. 12-year old players cannot pitch in this league. There are 2-3 games a week. One Saturday game and one weekday game scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday evening.

Majors

Ages 11 - 12 (5th & 6th Grade)

The Melrose Little League Major League Division is the most competitive and it includes the most experienced players.

All 12 year old eligible players are guaranteed placement in this division, and 11 year old eligible players are encouraged to play in this division. 

10 year old eligible players may request to play in this division but must be approved.

There are approximately 3 games a week. One Saturday game and two weekday games scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evening.
