Spring

Spring is the primary season for Melrose Little League. Players of all skill levels ages 4-12 are invited to play in one of five divisions: Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Federal League Kid Pitch, Minors and Majors. The season starts with practices in late March, and includes games running multiple times a week from April through the middle of June. There is an All-Star game and championship playoffs for all leagues except Coach Pitch and Tee Ball.

Summer - Jimmy Fund

Following the Spring Baseball season, Melrose Little League participates in the Jimmy Fund Baseball League.

The league is open to players 8 & up who will compete against teams from other towns in District 12. The four divisions of play are based on age: 8/9, U10, U11 and U12. There are weekly practices and 7-10 games per year (weeknights and Sunday evenings), with the season beginning after July 4and ending in early August. Players do not have to have played Melrose Little League spring baseball in order to participate.

In addition to being competitive with a good overall level of play, this league allows teams to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Fundraising efforts by the players around the community are typically outstanding, and Melrose Little League has been a state leader in fundraising for the past few years. Teams have been invited to Fenway Park due to the success of our local fundraising efforts, and we have been applauded by patients of Dana-Farber who are receiving life-saving treatment and care.

Summer - District Teams

As a chartered member of Little League International, Melrose Little League is invited to participate in state, regional and national Little League competitions each summer. Melrose is allowed to enter one team per season in U10, U11 and U12 divisions, with teams competing in a district-wide tournament (District 12). The winner of the that tournament will go on to a sectional round, and the winner of that Sectional will receive an invitation to play for a state championship. Upon winning a state championship, the U12 team is eligible to play for the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. Teams are selected by the an Executive Board from the Board of Directors with input from coaches in the Minors and Majors divisions.

Fall Ball

Fall Ball is a chance for all ball players to get a little more baseball in before the winter months. The league is casual as there are no standings or playoffs, running from early September through late October. Commitment is minimal with a weekly practice and one game on Sunday morning. Players are assigned to teams based on age, skill level, and school. Registration opens in early August.
